This classic Atari 2600 title is the first ever action-adventure game, spawning an entire genre. The developer, Warren Robinett, famously hid his name inside a secret room – which became the first ever Easter Egg to be released in a console game. Adventure was introduced to a new generation of fans by the character James Halliday in the novel Ready Player One, who says "finding Robinett’s Easter Egg for the first time was one of the coolest videogaming experiences of my life.”

The year is 2543. You are the last cactus on Earth.
You live in the scorching deserts of the Rocky Mountains in what used to be Alberta, Canada. The heat is nearly unbearable and wildfires are common. The rest of your fellow cacti have moved to a more temperate climate ... on Mars. They have sent a final spaceship to transport you there.
Reaching it won’t be easy. Water has become Earth’s most precious resource, and although you are a cactus, you need every drop. You’ll collect the water as you move through the canyons on your way to rendezvous with your rocket. Every so often, you’ll even find a bucket of water, and you’ll be able rest for the night.
But watch out for the humans. The few that remain after World War XII think they need the water even more than you. And they’ll do anything to protect it.
Use your amazing fist to eliminate personal demons! If your outstretched hand touches a demon points are awarded. Greater awards are given if the demon is eliminated while the arm matches its color. Demons who touch your arm will do one point of damage to your health. If all six hearts are gone so are you! Only one arm can appear on-screen at a time. Fully retract your arm to enable the opposite appendage. You can change your off-screen arms color by pressing the FIRE button. Occasionally a star will appear that randomly changes your current arms color and awards bonus points. At certain intervals the demons will begin to move faster.
You control Mr. Yo-Yo. You are given five lives at the start of the game – one in play, and another four in reserve. The object of the game is to descend to the bottom of the cave, and rescue the Notelies by returning them to the top of the cave. When a Notely is ready to be rescued, he will appear in the little bucket area at the bottom of the cave. To pick up the Notely, descend to the bottom of your string. Mr. Yo-Yo will begin flashing various colors to indicate you’ve picked up a Notely. Then, return to the top of the screen to release the Notely to freedom! Mr. Yo-Yo will then return to his normal color, and you can get ready to rescue the next Notely. Sometimes, you may have to shoot some enemies to get the Notelies to appear. The further you get into a level of caves, the more timid the Notelies become. You’ll have to shoot more and more enemies for them to have enough courage to appear.
There are five different types of creatures inside the caves (Blobs, Flappers, Bouncers, Stunners, and Snippers).
As part of an experiment, a roach was sent into space. But the ship was trapped in a cosmic ray storm and exploded!
The roach miraculously survived, losing two legs in the explosion, but also acquired the ability to fly through space and shoot energy blasts from his antennae! Your mission is to guide the stranded insect back to earth through a perilous journey infested with all kinds of evil space creatures.
This game was finished at MNetwork in the 1980's, but not released until much later. In 2000, Intellivision Productions released this game complete with a simple box and manual. It is still available from their web site. Swordfight requires two players, which is possibly why the game was not released in the first place.
Holey Moley was an unreleased prototype written by Bob Polaro. The game was originally programmed back in 1983, but was never commercially released due to ownership changes at Atari. This game requires the use of the Kid's Controller, although the keyboard and touch pad controllers work fine with it also.
A version of Holey Moley complete with a cartridge, manual, box and Kid's Controller overlay was sold at the 2002 Classic Gaming Expo. You can purchase a copy of Holey Moley by visiting Atari2600.com.
