The game features a standard direction pad and 4 buttons, "jump", "faster", "slow roll", and "spin dash". There are additional buttons for toggling the power or sound, and starting and pausing the game. The background of the game is a rendering of the checkerboard floor found in Green Grove Zone in the 16-bit game.
In 1997, a Bomberman-themed LCD game was released by Bandai. The game is played much like the original Bomberman games, with the player having to destroy blocks in a grid-like maze in order to find the entrance to the next level. The game also features sound effects and music.
WarHeads is a game set in an unexplored quadrant of space, in which competing players take turns to annihilate opposing players positioned near randomly placed planets. Every level takes place in a new solar system. The gameplay is largely similar to Scorched Earth and Worms with destructible environments, but with different mass and gravity for each planet that affects every missile. By surviving as long as possible the player earns points and money. There are about 50 different weapons for the space ship and there is an editor to customize all weapons as well. Afterwards these weapons can be shared through e-mail. The game can be played in single-player, head-to-head, over a local network or over the internet. The object of the game is to cause other players to crash into one of these trails, one of the moving barriers, or the edge of the game area. Ucchannanchan no Honoo no Challenger: Denryuu Iraira Bou follows the same playing principle as the mechanical wire loop game. In this variant, the player has to guide a ball through six courses which basically consist of narrow ways with curves and obstacles. Later levels introduce moving obstacles and parts in which the screen slightly tilts. The player is not allowed to touch anything and has to solve the course within a time limit. This all is commentated by an enthusiastic announcer. Multiplayer is a simple split-screen race.
