Home ports of the game were announced for the Philips CD-i, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, and Jaguar CD. However, only the CD-i version was actually released, though non-playable demos of the 3DO and Jaguar CD versions appear on those consoles' respective versions of Brain Dead 13.
Four Footed Friends is an adaptation of the classic 1914 children's book of the same name. It contains rhymes and illustrations about animals with 40 pages in total. The bookworms Albert, Wendy and Pablo guide the player through the story. Albert has interesting facts about animals, while Wendy shows the player how to learn new words, and Pablo allows the player to colour a picture from the story. Activities involve reading, spelling, vocabulary, animal facts, painting, and discovering hidden surprises in the backgrounds such as videos.
With the Inter-activator, the player can go forwards, backwards, go to a page, change the language, and visit the card catalogue for other information. The game was fully localized in English, Spanish, French and Japanese. The game also included a parent guide which showed parents how to use the CD ROM.
