Top Skater is an arcade game released by Sega in 1997, and built on the Sega Model 2 hardware. It was one of the first arcade games to feature a skateboard controller interface. In Top Skater, players stand on a skateboard-like platform which swung side-to-side or tilted, manipulating the actions of the avatars in the game. Similar games were made for skiing, snowboarding and other sports of this nature. The game consisted of various ramps, rails and other skating objects from which the player could do tricks to gain points. The main sponsor of the game was Coca-Cola. The soundtrack of the game consisted entirely of these songs by the punk rock band Pennywise. The game's style is like that of the later and more known Sega game Crazy Taxi, noticeably the character art design and music type. Top Skater was also directed by Kenji Kanno. After numerous wars and several environmental disasters, only two world powers remain; the United Civilized States (»UCS«), covering the American continent, Western Europe and North Africa, and the Eurasian Dynasty (»ED«) covering the coherent landmasses of Eastern Europe and Asia. The damage caused by the long wars led both world powers to evacuate the population to recently built underground cities. Australia and most parts of Africa were sacrificed during the long wars, which lasted several decades. Highly toxic biological and chemical weapons were developed on these continents, leaving them so badly contaminated, that no human life can survive there. Not even the use of robots and machines is possible. The general opinion was that these continents would forever remain uninhabitable, and they were wiped from every map. The "HBO exclusive" movie, Soldier Boyz, was converted into this interactive, full motion video shooter for the PC which tests your hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes and memory of the events that transpire on-screen. A United Nations airplane flying over the jungles Vietnam is shot down. Vietnamese terrorist, Vinh Moc, kidnaps Gabrielle Prescott, the daughter of an American billionaire, who was aboard that plane. Prescott seeks out and hires Major Howard Toliver, an ex-Marine and highly decorated veteran of Vietnam, to gather a team and rescue his daughter. Toliver, who now works as a counsellor in a Los Angeles prison, recruits six men to form his team - all prison inmates who are serving life sentences. The game begins as the well-armed group lands in Vietnamese territory and makes their way through the jungles to find the captive Gabrielle.
