Just in time for Christmas is another short but sweet hack. You take on the role of Toadette who just had her Christmas morning ruined by a monster taking her Brother.
Play through 4 action packed snowy levels in order to save your brother and get back to Christmas break!
The Nightmare of Ganon is a complete redesign of the NES game Zelda II with new story, overworld, caves, palaces, towns, item order, random encounters, and more.
It’s a hardtype and more challenging then the original game. Enemies don’t take more hits then usual, the difficulty lies more in the design.
It’s much longer because of a bigger overworld which has more caves and bridges. There are longer caves and deeper palaces.
There are a couple custom changes to gameplay which include enemies that respawn & you can restart at the palace if you game over.
This romhack will give a feeling like it’s a totally new Zelda II game because none of the design is similar to the original.
Mario: Escape from the Jail - Definitive Edition is a ROM hack which contains 5 main courses and several side courses to explore and 50 collectable stars. This hack is a remaster of the original Escape from the Jail, made in 2016. This marks the second hack contributed in remaking a game of the Ztar Attack series, as well as the third game not made by the original creator (the first being Forest Ruins: Rebooted; the second being Ztar Attack Rebooted).
Following the story, this game unfolds as a prequel to Ztar Attack under the brand "Ztar Attack 0.5". Unlike Ztar Attack Rebooted, the game uses the original level layout but key sections are condensed by quality standards -- visuals and exploration alike. Plus, newer gameplay tech and custom assets are implemented.
Sonic 1 Definitive is a hack named by RadiantNexus Team, which seeks to reimagine Sonic 1 by rearranging levels. remixing music, adding features from future games, and readding scrapped ideas in new and interesting ways.
Major features:
3 acts of reimagined level design, including one act that has yet to be fully reimagined in any other hack.
A miniboss.
Massive art overhaul all over the place.
Music made by ProjectFM and MechaKnuckles.
Menus!
A custom splash screen.
There's been massive engine overhauls as well, including the Sonic 3 level layout format for massive levels, and the Sonic 3 object manager to go alongside this.
Backwards Mario World is an easier hack that parodies the storytelling/style in most rom hacks.
This hack features an interesting overworld design where you play through the events/levels as if they already occurred. Additionally start-select is enabled because Mario has technically beaten the game already. Good Luck!
This hack features 6 rather lengthy levels. Although the hack can be played through normally in half an hour, you can revisit the levels to find new paths and many secrets. The difficulty ranges from very easy to very hard, the hardest sections being well hidden for the best players to find. Expect plenty of original gameplay ideas and nicely designed environments.
Tebeo is the creator's first ever SMW hack. They themed every level in it around comic books they like (Tebeo means comic in spanish).
The difficulty of this hack scales up a bit at the end of the game, and also at the last level of each overworld. Overall the game is easy/medium Kaizo difficulty.
All the mechanics and sprites are vanilla and almost all the graphics, except some stuff edited on yychr. It has custom palettes and music.
About asm, it has some life quality patches, like instant retry and NoMoreSpriteTileLimits.
A video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988 by Vic Tokai. The game's main character is based on Kenji Sagara (相良 健治, Sagara Kenji), a popular Japanese child actor who was famous in the 1980s for his impersonation of baseball player Masayuki Kakefu.
CrazySonic is a joke hack of Sonic the Hedgehog by Ralakimus. This project was first released as a demo build in July of 2015 and was later released in October for SHC 2015. This hack is a mixture of CrazyBus' gameplay and music and Sonic 1's gameplay, plus other additions. It was designed to be as obnoxious as possible to evoke negative reactions from players. Despite this, it is generally considered to be amusing by players, especially first time players.
Santa’s evil brother has stolen Toad’s little sister (Toadette) and toad’s gift! You have to play though the frozen North Pole of the Mushroom Kingdom to save them!
TCA is a hack featuring level changes, animation, and a bunch of assembly hacks to change the game into something new. This hack has the same level of difficulty as the original Super Mario Bros, and I do hope you can enjoy it without savestates.
There is a catch however, since it is only a short game (4 levels) you only start off with one life. However, there are lives scattered though all 4 levels.
Here is a full ROM hack for Super Mario World which took 2nd place on SMWCentral’s Summer 2013 C3 awards!
Someone replaced the true moon with a fake one. Mario, without knowing anything, will be able to solve this problem thanks to “the little trip” he decided to have in midnight. He will encounter Youkais and weirdos in every stage, and he must beat them all in order to find the culprit. Before playing, read the .txt file. After that, enjoy and have fun!
El Dorado is intended to be fun and fair while still being challenging. The hack features 11 levels with a unique visual style and focus on being around 30-45 seconds per section before getting a midway or beating the level. Trolls in the game are light hearted and used sparingly.
This hack features:
- Soundtrack with nine new ports that I've done myself, including two original songs I wrote.
- No boss fights.
- No secret exits, all secrets are shoutouts to some of the streamers I enjoy watching or memes.
- Some chocolate in the form of custom blocks, custom sprites and some level specific gimmicks.
- Quality of life patches such as frame rule, spin throw direction, dtothefourth's retry system featured in Mostly Harmless and more.
