The fourth game in the Wizardry series, The Return of Werdna takes a decidedly different approach from all the games that preceded it. Instead of playing as a party of six player-generated characters, the player controls Werdna himself, the evil Archmage from the first game. It seems that after Werdna was defeated by the party of adventurers who stole his amulet, he was imprisoned at the bottom of his ten-level labyrinth in an eternal slumber to be tortured by nightmares for eternity. Although Werdna was supposed to sleep forever, somehow he has awakened, and now he is out for revenge.
At the beginning of the game Werdna finds himself in a situation that is singularly unique for most arch-villains: he is stripped of his powers, trapped within his own former stronghold, and filled with the realization that the same traps and monsters he created to keep adventurers out now act as obstacles to his freedom.
Werdna will slowly regain his magical powers as well as have the ability to summon helpful monsters to accompan
The king of the Country of Forest in Felix sent out a proclamation all throughout Felix announcing that he was seeking a suitable young man to take his beloved daughter as a bride. Many suitors responded and were subsequently put through a large variety of trials by the king. In the end, the decision was narrowed down to two suitors. One was the prince of the Country of Lakes in Felix, and the other was a wizard who had used his powers to transform himself into a handsome young man.

However, after learning about this, the wizard transformed himself into the shape of the prince in order to take the princess for himself. He placed a curse upon the prince and transported him far from Felix, to the other end of the world.
Tower of Doom is a single-player, Dungeons & Dragons-inspired title created exclusively for the Intellivision. Choose from 10 different character classes, each with its own strengths. 7 different quests are available for play, with the harder quests featuring randomized maps and magic item effects. After choosing the quest to embark on, players will then control their character using a top-down view of the section of the dungeon they are in, the corridors and rooms being drawn on-screen as they explore them. Also to the player's disposal is a display of the character's inventory which can be utilized at any time, and an on-screen map of the entire dungeon. Encountering a creature will initiate a battle screen at which time players can fight the creature or attempt to bribe it with items they have discovered. Magic items and traps can also be found in the dungeon, each having unique effects on the player.

Elysion is a traditional 8-bit JRPG that incorporates elements from various RPG games. While it starts with the player talking to the local King for exposition, similar to other traditional JRPGs, it takes inspiration from different games within the RPG genre. It shares similarities with the first Dragon Quest in appearance, offers the choice of multiple protagonists like in Final Fantasy, features real-time combat without screen transitions like Hydlide or Ys, and adopts the strategy of enemies only moving when the player does, as seen in strategic Roguelike dungeon crawlers like the Mystery Dungeon series.
The main objective of the game is to defeat the evil demon Baal. However, before facing this final challenge, the player character is tested by the King. They are tasked with entering the dungeon beneath the castle and retrieving important quest items. Once they successfully complete this extensive dungeon, the protagonist is recognized as the Hero of God and can embark on a journey to defeat Baal. This entail

Argo is a role-playing game set in a pseudo-3D continuous world. The player explores the environments from a first-person view. It is possible to try to talk to any encountered character, as well as attack anyone. Most battles take place within the exploration area and involve a fairly simple turn-based exchange of attacks. However, occasional fights against larger monsters take place on a separate screen, have an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective, and require the player to move and attack in real time. Experience points and gold are awarded for defeating enemies. It is necessary to feed the protagonist; when his condition is "hungry" food also restores a portion of his hit points.
