A magician changes the prince of Parancho into a weird creature while he is on an errand in a distant land. Since his new form isn't very strong he has to entrust his life to a group of adventurers to get back home safely.
Cool Boarders 2 features four stock riders and six stock tracks. Many more are available as you progress through the game or unlock them with codes or secrets.
This installment of the Cool Boarders series features a split screen "Vs" mode, where two human players can race each other. It also features a one person race option, to race against up to six CPU controlled players.
The tracks all vary in length and challenge level. There is also a half pipe, Boardpark level and a Trick Master Run with continuous jumps and a tutorial to teach you all the moves. The move list in Cool Boarders 2 is quite extensive, including standard board grabs and various flips and spins. The graphic technology is primarily based on 3D polygonal models. The game also features red book audio.
The purpose of the game is to explore and emerge successfully from the Undiscovered Underground. The player begins only with a low-quality Lantern and plastic imitation sword, a parody of the starting items from Zorks I, II and III. Upon entering the Undiscovered Underground, the adventurer is trapped by a freak avalanche. The only way to escape is to release the mutant Rat Ants (an echo from Starcross) and to direct them to the avalanche, which they dispatch in a manner reminiscent of Aesop's Fables. The player must demask the Grue vendor to gain the four candy bars and place the relevant objects in the Mud Forum on the appropriate corresponding floor symbols. This unleashes a mutant chase reminiscent of Planetfall where the adventurer stays one step ahead of the Rat Ants because of the shrewdly placed candy bars. However, the escape comes at the cost of unleashing a Rat Ant epidemic onto the empire and forces the adventurer to flee from the wrath of the Grand Inquisitor.
The setting is between Gradius III and Gradius IV.
During the " Third Bacterian War ", the planet Gradius defeated the Bacterians, and peace returned to Gradius. After two hundred years passed, Gradius prospered, but when the disappearance of a science vessel which went to a nebula known as "The Evil Range", the colony planets of Gradius were attacked by some unknown force that destroyed 99% of the Gradius Army. The Gradius Army Headquarters decided to launch a desperation attack on the "Dark Nebula", which was the source of the invaders. Four Hyper Space Fighters launched from the mothership with orders to stop them.

New features for 1998 include more advanced Quarterback functions such as the ability to play lob passes and adjust timing patterns, and more instinctive AI features to adjust as the match goes on. Squad features have also been advanced, with the opportunity to create plays and trade them.

It is the sixth installment of the Parodius series and is the Parodius equivalent to Cosmic Wars, a turn-based strategy game set in the Gradius universe, or R-Type Tactics, set in the R-Type universe.

Only players who own the "Bass Tsuri No.1" game can participate in the event, otherwise the player participates in the garbage-picking-up event. The players compete for total weight of five basses. 100 higher-ranking winners qualify for the final tournament. Shigesato Itoi, bass professional Kawabe, Ogimori Jyunko Hagimori, and Kyoko Koizumi appeared on the event.
