Midgard Outlaw is a total conversion for GZDoom/Doom II developed and released by Mike MacDee (Impie) in 2017. It is an 11-map sequel episode to Project Einherjar, released a year earlier: both projects are based on a dystopian novel series, Last of the Ghost Lions, set in the same universe. The gameplay involves lots of fast, brutal shootouts with enemies that die relatively easily, but can badly injure the careless player. Midgard Outlaw uses the same weapons and enemies from Project Einherjar, but adds several new foes, as well as a dynamic music gimmick: the soundtrack is comprised of ogg vorbis instead of midi, and switches from calm to intense at certain points during each mission. Unlike its sci-fi heavy predecessor, Midgard Outlaw has almost no sci-fi elements apart from the dystopian setting, focusing on an action movie motif instead. It also features a secret level, unlike the original.

Styled after games like Galaga, the player controls a spaceship and can shoot at aliens in their path, each representing a random file on the player's computer. Destroying an alien causes the file to be deleted, potentially corrupting the player's operating system, while dying causes the game itself to be deleted. The aliens do not attack and only act as dangerous obstacles.

The idea is that each bullet counts for a lot, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pump them full of as many bullets as you can spare; they'll get a chance to shoot back before they die if you don't finish them off. Cover actually means something, it's better to make sure there's a pillar or a desk near by to duck behind, especially if you have to reload or bandage yourself.
Combine that with the ability to strafe, ramp, ladder, and double jump and you've got yourself one hell of a good time.

The game takes place at an undisclosed time in the near future. Unlike the first game which featured three different cities, Grand Theft Auto 2 only features a single town, but it's divided into three districts which are unlocked one at a time: downtown, residential and industrial. Like in the original, the player goes around answering phones to initiate various missions. The game uses an overhead camera in a 3D landscape and allows the player to freely explore the city and steal any vehicle the player sets his or her eyes on. To unlock new districts the player must reach a certain score which is done by committing crimes and finishing missions.
