It was released as part of Tiger's "Arcade Games" series along with 4 other games, Q*bert, NFL Blitz 2000, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and Hydro Thunder, all of which were based on games that were released on the Sega Dreamcast.

This is one of the few Sonic games to be based off a television series. The background of the game seems to be from one of the Sonic television shows, most likely Sonic Underground.

It tracks the wearer's steps with a built-in pedometer and allows for connectivity with the Game Boy Color game Sakura Taisen GB: Geki Hanagumi Nyuutai! for unlocking bonus content in that game.
