    Boy Racer

    1987

    Shooter Racing Arcade
    Amstrad CPC
LOOKING a little like the old favourite Spy Hunter -though with only a trace of the playability - and a lot like an ancient hand-held game called Champion Racer, this dodge-'em-and-shoot-'em is very colourful, but a little slow. You must qualify as number one driver in the 007 spy school's driving test with a difference. You are equipped with a car possessing the ability to fly over short distances and fitted with firepower. You can play alone or in a genuine two-player mode. The packaging announces that the course is tough and one which you can only survive if you are brave and resourceful - and how true this is. Your car is seen from above and moves along a roadway which scrolls from top to bottom of the screen. As you barrel down the blacktop the opposition moves in for the kill mounted on bikes or piloting anything from little yellow taxi cabs to Sherman tanks. Initially you have about a dozen bullets and it appears that these are only effective at short range. Quite unsportingly. some of your opponents see

    Platform
    Amstrad CPC
Binky the painter has gotten the job to paint the floors of a 21 storey building in the city. Other painting companies has quit the job due to it not being safe, but Binky has no such concerns and accepts the job despite all its hazards. Each level of the game is a floor of the building which is viewed from an isometric perspective. The objective is simply to paint the whole floor which is done automatically as Binky moves across it. Since the floors somehow are floating around in mid air it's possible to run off the edge of the floor and fall to a certain death if not careful. There are also various nasty creatures that Binky has to watch out for. These will suddenly appear on the floor and move in one direction until they either get to Binky or fall of the floor. There are also beasts that move straight for Binky but these can be killed if stepped on before they hatch. There are also balls that roll around the floors. Later levels need to be painted with two or three coats of paints and require Binky to move over
  • The Bells

    1986

    The Bells

    1986

    Amstrad CPC
This is a fairly close copy of Ocean/Century's arcade platformer, Hunchback. Your goal is to traverse each screen filled with perils, so that you may reach the bell that is placed on the right side. The first screen contains only a ball or bullet that crosses the screen, which you must jump over. Jumping straight into the bell rope will kill you, however. The next screen has gaps which you must jump across, with the right distance in mind. After that comes a similar screen, only the pits are filled with pikemen who lower and raise their pikes. Timing is necessary in order not to be impaled as you jump over the pikemen. The fourth screen has the object from screen one hurtling across the screen, so your jumps across the pits must be timed so that you don't jump into its path. The fifth screen is a variation on the third, but with an arrow shooting over your head so that timing must take both the pikemen and the arrow in account. The game procedes in a similar fashion, with different combinations of projectiles, pike
