    Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2

    2000

    Racing
    Dreamcast
The thrilling followup to the original, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 improves in all fronts. With more road to drive on, rivals to fight, and cars to master, this entry offers everything and more. In the game, you race around the streets of Tokyo at night in an almost seamless experience, from cruising around, to joining a race, to cruising again. Flash your headlights when tailing a rival to incite a race, and after a short cinematic, you're both off. To win a race, you need to take down your opponent's power meter, while keeping yours intact. It decreases when hitting objects, and, more importantly, in last place. The game is less focused on the realism of a racer, but still takes into account a good amount of customization, from upgrades to tuning. Since you'll be driving the car almost constantly, its best to have your own personal vehicle. The roads you drive on start out limited, but expand as you dive deeper and deeper into the game. Don't expect to go without memorizing the tracks; in order to beat the best, you

    Gauntlet Legends

    2000

Role-playing (RPG) Hack and slash/Beat 'em up
    Dreamcast
The third and final console version of Gauntlet Legends, released in June of 2000. This version is most notable for being a near-direct arcade port, as the only console port to feature the four original Realms from the arcade original. However, some of their levels were completely redone, a new physics engine was used, and some of the soundtracks were remixed. Like the arcade version, there is no inventory. The player can only access the shop after completing a level. Special items are used on a time limit, which is slightly longer than the arcade version. The game is often criticized for not allowing players to buy food at the shop. This port includes many features from Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, including its 8 new character classes. The Poisoned Fields area is included as the first level in the Castle Stronghold. The Mausoleum is also accessible from a secret passage in the Castle Courtyard.

You'll need to master every move in your suit--and weapon in your arsenal--to outflank the Zeon and complete each mission. And although you've got armored vehicles and ant-sized infantry on your side, the battle will be lost or won by your ability to jump, hover, and fly into battle while zooming in your weapons on the enemy. A cross between first-person shooter and strategy game, Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes comes from a series that originated on the Sega Saturn. This title features such enhancements as detailed 3-D mobile suits, cinematic interstitial scenes, a dramatic soundtrack, and actual sound effects from the anime TV series, Gundam Wing.
