    1994

    Adventure
    Sega Saturn
This Saturn-exclusive game is actually a sequel to the Sega CD game Mansion of Hidden Souls, even though the title might lead one to believe it is a remake. This game takes place after the events of the first game. The souls of the hidden mansion have asked you to return, because they have recognized that you possess special powers that allow you to see the butterfly manifestations of the souls living there. Something terrible is afoot at the mansion, and you must investigate things and set them right. Along the way you must discover the true purpose of the mansion and it's significance in the universe. Much like the Sega CD game, this is an FMV adventure. You move from location to location via video sequences, and solve puzzles to move on in the story.

    Airs Adventure

    1997

    Adventure
    Sega Saturn
Airs Adventure takes place in an environment reminiscent of 17th century Europe. The game follows the story of an aspiring knight (default name Henry), who is framed for a crime and is about to be executed. However, the beautiful princess of the country feels mercy and stops the execution at the last moment. As the hero tries to uncover the truth about his conviction, fate brings the two together, and they begin a journey to discover distant lands in search for adventure, and perhaps even develop feelings for each other... The game's combat is a rather simple version of the traditional Japanese-style RPG system. The player controls a party that contains only Henry and the princess. Whenever enemies are encountered, a separate battle screen appears. Commands are executed via a standard menu, allowing physical attacks, defense, as well as offensive and supporting magic spells. Graphically, Airs Adventure combines pre-rendered character sprites with partially polygonal backgrounds, with an over-the-shoulder view.

    Mad Martha

    1983

    Adventure
    ZX Spectrum
This (mostly) text adventure game places you in the role of hen-pecked hero, Henry Littlefellow. Seeking entertainment once in his life, your goal is to steal back your wages from your wife's purse and head off to the bright lights of the nearby casino (and other establishments) for a night of fun. Unfortunately, your axe-wielding maniac wife won't let things be that simple, and even escaping the house will be tricky without stumbling in the dark or waking the baby and alerting her to your sneaky plan. Mad Martha is primarily a standard text adventure game, however the user is also presented with the odd arcade section (such as collecting £'s of money whilst avoiding the family cat, or dodging frogger-style across a road to go back home and collect the car keys), to break up the game flow. Getting into the casino leads you to the final challenge.

I will shortly reveal quite a few details about the game's plot, so if you wish to experience Ship of Doom for yourself, I advise you to give it a go before continuing. Because, as always, there are serious...
