The gameplay uses first-person navigation of dungeons and turn-based battles against demons. The player can recruit demons as allies by talking to them rather than fighting them, and two to three demons can be fused to create new demons.
In this final entry of the Pocket Digimon sub-series, you can interact with Culumon, that little Digimon from Digimon Tamers anime series. Unlike in the previous Pocket Digimon games, you can only get Culumon to your PocketStation. Also, Culumon can not evole at all.

The goal of the game is to breed, train and race monsters named "anima." A follow-up on the Game Boy Color, Animastar GB, was released in Japan on March 30, 2001.
