Back in 1995

Back in 1995

A survival horror game that is a deliberate throw-back to early PlayStation titles.

Overview

Back in 1995 is a survival horror game developed by Takaaki Ichijo, under his studio name Throw the warped code out, and published by Degica for PC in 2016. It was later ported to several different consoles by Ratalaika Games. A version for the New Nintendo 3DS, available only on the Japanese eShop, is entitled "Back in 1995 64" as a nod to the epidemic of Nintendo 64 game titles that ended in "64."

As its title suggests, the entire game is done in a retro style meant to resemble games for the PlayStation and Saturn, and specifically the wave of third-person horror games that emerged in the mid-to-late 1990s. Many aspects of its gameplay and presentation – including the simple combat, "tank" controls, fixed camera angles, low-fidelity 3D graphics, and lonely atmosphere – are modeled after games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Clock Tower.
