A Japanese RPG based on The Wizard of Oz.

Gameplay

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is a DS game controlled entirely with the stylus on a trackball on the bottom screen. Using the track ball allows the player to move Dorothy around the 3D world of Oz. Coming in contact with enemies on the screen as they appear triggers battles with them. The game is a traditional RPG along the lines of the Dragon Quest games, where turn-based battles are fought in a first-person view. The playable characters' abilities are based on their personalities and actions from the original story. As an example, the Cowardly Lion has the ability to allow the party to escape from battles.

In Japan, the game is known as RIZ-ZOAWD, an anagram of WIZARD-OZ.

Story

Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is a loose adaptation of the original story written by L. Frank Baum. After a tornado transports young Dorothy and her dog Toto to Oz, Dorothy journeys to Oz Castle in search of a way back home. Along the way, she meets several friends, including the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.

Characters

Dorothy Gale: The protagonist, who with her dog Toto, is transported to a magical world by a tornado. She tries to find her way home by going to Oz Castle, the game's version of Emerald City.
Toto: Dorothy's dog.

Scarecrow: A friendly, optomistic scarecrow Dorothy meets that lacks a brain.

Tin Woodman: A metal woodcutter Dorothy encounters who lacks a heart.
Cowardly Lion: A lion who lacks courage.

Flora: The Witch of the Spring and youngest of the three witch sisters. Her realm is north of Oz Castle (Game's Witch of the North).
Deene: The Witch of the Summer and the middle sister. Her realm is east of Oz Castle (Game's Witch of the East).
Horiin: The Witch of the Fall and the eldest sister. Her realm is west of Oz Castle (Game's Witch of the West).
Snowso: The Witch of the Winter. Her domain is south of Oz Castle. She is the mother of the three witch sisters. (Game's Glinda the Good).
Nekozukin: Cat-like beings that serve the three witch sisters.

Oz: The Ruler of Oz Castle. (Game's "Great and Powerful" Oz).
Pachi of Fire: Fire elemental who helps Dorothy.
Hyul of Wind: Air elemental who helps Dorothy.
Doron of Earth: Earth elemental who helps Dorothy.
Ulu of Water: Water elemental who helps Dorothy.
