Overview
Picross X: Picbits vs UZBOROSS is a puzzle game developed and digitally published by Jupiter for the Nintendo Switch in Japan on August 4, 2022, with a worldwide release on December 19, 2022.
A spin-off of the studio's Picross series of puzzle games, Picross X has players solving a series of small nonogram puzzles as fast as they can in order to protect numerous small creatures (Picbits) from being eaten by a large hungry worm (UZBOROSS).
Each course has multiple timed "rounds", where players earn score based on how many randomized puzzles they solve. Each round has a special rule applied to them, based either on the puzzles' difficulty or on a special constraint (such as removing hints, requiring the player to mark empty tiles, and requiring a puzzle be solved with a single linear path). Unlike puzzles from other nonogram puzzle games, these are meant to be solved in a faster, less-methodical pace and normally do not form pictures.
As players progress through the game and unlock new courses, they can also unlock and upgrade Skills to aid them (such as a passive skill to reduce the timer penalty on mistakes made and a cooldown skill to gain a quick score multiplier). Along with single-player, the game supports online co-operative multiplayer for up to eight players.
The game also includes various cosmetic items for the game interface, the player's Picbits, and the UZBOROSS. Most of them are unlockable through in-game currency, although some are unlockable through achievements and some are only available as paid DLC. It also includes special unlockables for players who own any of the first seven Picross S games and for players who own Working Zombies.
