"Don't Byte Your Tongue" is a precision platformer that tests players' skills to the limit. With a simple premise of getting to the top, the gameplay is easy to learn but hard to master, making it accessible to players of all skill levels. However, as players progress through the game, they'll face increasingly difficult challenges that will require their full attention and skill to overcome.
The game features multiple modes that offer varying levels of difficulty and challenge, including the original KiloByte mode, which requires players to climb to the top and avoid falling back down. The MegaByte mode adds a timer and a danger zone that moves to the location of the last landing spot, making it even more challenging. The GigaByte mode takes it a step further, making players lose all progress if the timer reaches 0. And finally, the TeraByte mode is the hardest, giving players less time to move out of the danger zone and randomly inverting their launch controls.
In addition to the challenging gameplay, the game also features beautiful 8-bit retrowave art and addictive synthwave tracks that enhance the overall experience. There are a total of 8 levels, each adding a unique twist to the game, as well as secret collectibles hidden throughout the levels that players can bring to the top for their robot partner.
Players will also encounter NPCs that may bully them for not being good enough but can occasionally provide useful advice. And if players are looking for a real challenge, the game offers competitive cross-platform leaderboards that allow them to show off their skills and climb to the top of the global rankings.

"Don't Byte Your Tongue" was started as a project amongst a group of students due to their love for rage games. The team aimed to create an addictive rage game with a goal of establishing a simple set of mechanics that would be easy to understand for any type of player but difficult to master as the game progresses. Rage games were mostly seen as unfair games that brought entertainment to only viewers and not the actual player. However, the team's goal for "Don't Byte Your Tongue" was to create a rage game that was fair but still retained the brutal punishments expected from a rage game. The game then transformed from a concept into a prototype back in January of 2022.
Since the summer of 2022, "Don't Byte Your Tongue" has been beta tested by their beta testers in their Discord community. The final version was completed in the first week of April after almost a year and three months of work. It was simply a passion project created by a group of undergraduates who did not want to study.
