Overview

Mah Jongg -V-G-A- (also known as Mah Jongg) is a shareware mahjong solitaire game developed and published by Ron Balewski for MS-DOS PCs in 1988.

One of the earliest mahjong solitaire games since the release of the 1986 game Shanghai, Mah Jongg -V-G-A- uses the high-definition 640x480 16-color mode for VGA cards and supports mouse controls.

It received multiple updates up to November 1, 1991 (with v3.1), with added features (including custom tilesets with a bundled tile editor). It also received two alternate DOS versions: Mah Jongg LapTop (a monochrome version for use with LCD laptop displays) and Mah Jongg -8514- (a higher-resolution 1024x768 256-color version for graphics cards supporting the IBM 8514 standard).

It also received two Windows versions: Mah Jongg for Windows (released on February 1992 for Windows 3.1) and Mah Jongg '97 (released on August 1997 for Windows 95).

The original versions of the game were donationware, with the Windows versions switching to a nagware model.
