Raiga: Strato Fighter

Raiga: Strato Fighter

A side-scrolling shoot-'em-up arcade game from Tecmo, featuring a gameplay system where players flip their ship horizontally to attack enemies behind them.

Overview

Raiga: Strato Fighter is a sci-fi side-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed and released by Tecmo for arcades in 1991.

Similar to other shoot-'em-ups of the era, the game includes a multi-weapon system and smaller drones that follows the main starfighter. Its defining gimmick, however, is the ability to flip the spacecraft horizontally in the opposite direction to attack enemies coming from the left side of the screen. Unlike games like Defender, the game's camera movement remains the same in either orientation.

While the game received no sequels or home ports at the time, it was later included in the 2005 Xbox compilation Tecmo Classic Arcade and was digitally released for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series, on July 13, 2023.
