Safari Rally

Safari Rally

One of SNK's earliest arcade games is a top-down driving game similar to Sega's Head On. Drive off-road to collect dots while avoiding a collision with other cars.

Overview

Safari Rally is a top-down driving game developed and released by Shin Nihon Kikaku for arcades in Japan on 1979.

One of SNK's earliest arcade games, Safari Rally plays similarly to Sega's earlier game Head On, as players move a non-stopping car between lanes to collect dots and dodge enemy cars. It is named after the titular motorsports rally.

Unlike Head On and its clones, the game scrolls downward (forward), with nine lanes to switch between. The center three lanes have dots with the least amount of points, while the two outer lanes having the most amount of points. In addition, there are snakes and lions that give a random amount of bonus points when hit, and sometimes a line of dots change into flags.

It has received no home conversion and has not been included in any SNK compilation.
