Nintendo SwitchOverview
The 8th generation of mainline Pokémon games and the first mainline series entry on the Nintendo Switch (and the first mainline game in the series to appear on a home console). As with previous entries, this game featured a slate of new Pokemon as well as a new region to explore called Galar.
Similar to the 7th gen Sun and Moon, this game pushes further into 3D graphics and away from the original 2D sprites. Sword and Shield also brings back the "blind" random encounters in grassy areas, a departure from Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Eevee, the first Pokémon entries on the Nintendo Switch console, which featured visible Pokemon wandering around areas where wild Pokémon would normally be found.
