Super Xevious

Super Xevious

A vertical shoot 'em up and an update to the original game that contains new enemies.

Overview

Super Xevious is a vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up and the sequel to Namco's earlier Xevious. It adds a few new features, including new enemies and power-ups, but looks and plays similarly to the 1982 original. Super Xevious debuted in the Arcade before being ported to the Sharp X68000. It would also later make its way onto the Namco compilations Namco Classic Collection Vol. 1, Xevious 3D/G and Namco Museum DS.

Super Xevious: GAMP no Nazo ("Riddle of GAMP") is a Famicom-exclusive variant of Super Xevious. The twist of GAMP no Nazo is that the player needs to solve "riddles" before they can progress to the next level, in a manner similar to The Tower of Druaga. These riddles can involve needing to find a hidden bomb target, or remove all ground units, or some other objective that the player needs to suss out. If this objective is not met, the level cycles back to the beginning.

Super Xevious: GAMP no Nazo would later be adapted for a Nintendo "Vs." PlayChoice-10 Arcade cabinet.
