Overview
Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D platformer developed by Nintendo EPD and published exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on October 27th, 2017. After losing both Princess Peach and his trademark red cap during an attack by the evil Bowser, Mario teams up with a top hat-shaped creature named Cappy to pursue the wedding-planning villain across the globe and far beyond the boundaries of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Announcement
During the unveiling hardware concept trailer for the Nintendo Switch on October 20th, 2016, a very brief piece of footage was shown for a new Super Mario game. Later during Switch's reveal event on January 12th, 2017 the game was unveiled in full as Super Mario Odyssey, developed by Nintendo EPD Tokyo, and marketed as a direct successor to the Super Mario 64 lineage of big open space exploration platforming Mario games, opposed to the more tightly focused and smaller level-based titles of recent years in the Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World style of Mario games.

Power Moons

Super Mario Odyssey’s main collectibles come in the form of Power Moons. Mario and Cappy need to collect these moons to power the Odyssey so they can continue their pursuit. There are more than 900 known moons scattered throughout the game’s seventeen stages. Some of these moons can only be collected after completing the stage’s main objectives or the main story.
Nintendo Labo VR-Kit Support
On April 25 2019, Nintendo released a free update for the game adding support for the Nintendo Labo VR-Kit, adding three new mini-missions in the Cap, Seaside, and Luncheon Kingdoms designed to be played in VR.
