Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival

Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival

An Animal Crossing party game for Wii U, which uses amiibo.

Overview

Animal Crossing amiibo Festival is a party game for up to four players, with each player in the party mode required to use an amiibo. Gameplay follows Mario Party and Fortune Street conventions, with players rolling a dice and moving around the game board. Random events happen on each space, which increase or decrease the player's happiness and bells. There are no minigames in the board game mode. amiibo must be tapped on the gamepad to allow a player to roll the dice, similar to Mario Party 10's amiibo party mode. While at least one amiibo is required to play, the 3 other players are able to play as human villagers if there aren't enough amiibo to go around.

Happy points are the currency that determines the winning player. Random events on board spaces grant or remove happy points. Bells are used to increase happy points by purchasing items to give the player advantages.

Many characters from the Animal Crossing series are in the game and have similar functions as they did in main series Animal Crossing games. Turnips can be purchased from Joan and sold like a stock market. Power ups in the form of cards can be purchased from Redd (he doesn't sell any forgeries though). Katrina can read the player's fortune, which grant effects like providing the player happy points every time a specific number on the dice is rolled.

At the end of each game, players can save game data such as the amount of Happy Points earned to their amiibo, allowing players to level their figures up and earn bonuses such as new outfits and emotes for use in future games of amiibo Festival.

There are also other modes which make use of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards, including a quiz game and an island escape game.

Contrary to early reports from E3 2015, where the game was first announced, the game is not free to download. In fact, the game is not available digitally at all and can only be purchased in the form of a $60 bundle which comes with 2 exclusive figures and 3 exclusive amiibo cards (see below for details).
