Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden

A traditional 2D fighting game from the developers of the Guilty Gear and Blazblue series, boasting optional tag-team gameplay and almost 100 assist characters.

Overview

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden is a 2D sci-fi fantasy fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan (on June 11, 2015), Europe (on October 16, 2015), and North America (on October 20, 2015). The Japanese version was also released digitally via the eShop.

From the developers best known for the Guilty Gear and Blazblue series, Extreme Butoden is based on the Dragon Ball manga and anime series and takes place during numerous battles in the Dragon Ball Z storyline. Similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series (namely Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes), the game features tag teaming and numerous assist characters to choose from. While most of these content comes from the Dragon Ball Z arc (and their bonus side-story films), there are some characters (playable and assist) from the original Dragon Ball arc, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super. Its tag-team multiplayer was later expanded on with the 2018 game Dragon Ball FighterZ.

As this game was used as a base for the Japanese-exclusive 2016 fighting game One Piece: Daikaizoku Coliseum, the Japanese version was later updated on December 2016 to support cross-game multiplayer (allowing players using Dragon Ball Z characters in this game to battle players using One Piece characters in the other game).

A download code for a Virtual Console version of Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2 (with its Japanese intact) was included as a pre-order bonus for the North American and European versions of the game.

The game includes 18 playable characters (with 7 alternate forms, for a total roster of 25).
