Bound By Flame

Overview

Bound by Flame is a fantasy-themed action-RPG, where the player takes the role of a man possessed by a nefarious demon that grants him supernatural powers, but who also seeks to control his actions. The game's story focuses heavily on the player choosing between obeying the demon's evil commands or choosing the more righteous option.

Plot

The player takes the role of a mercenary known as Vulcan, whose mission is to protect a group of mages attempting to save the world from the evil Ice Lords, who seek to presumably do bad things. In the midst of a summoning ritual gone wrong, the player is possessed by a flame demon and becomes humanity's last best hope against its captors. As a victim of demonic influence, the player will frequently have to choose between doing the right thing, or going for the more selfish option. These choices play into the game's various endings.

Gameplay

The game features some fairly standard 3rd person combat, very similar to the combat in The Witcher 2, since the game puts a big emphasis on dodging and parrying enemy attacks. The player can build their character in multiple ways to alter how they approach combat, with most of the character customization conforming to the standard Warrior/Mage/Rogue archetypes.

The player can be joined by a companion at any time, but is limited to only one. Every companion has their own unique spells and abilities, and the player can develop special relationships with some companions. The player can develop their relationships with other characters by completing quests for them.

The game features an all-encompassing crafting system that allows the player to craft ammunition for ranged weapons, consumable items and upgrades for weapons, as well as weapons and armor. The player can unlock talents that reduce the amount of materials required to craft items.
