Aa Harimanada

Aa Harimanada is a sumo wrestling game based on the anime of the same name and released only in Japan.

Overview

Aa Harimanada is a sumo wrestling game published bySega and released in Japan on the Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Gear systems. It is based on the 1992 anime of the same name by E&G Film that in turn was based on a manga that ran from 1991 to 1996 in Weekly Morning. It debuted on the Game Gear first in July 1993, moving to the Mega Drive a few months later. It also saw a contemporaneous Game Boy adaptation by Atelier Double and ASK Kodansha (who also published the manga) around the same time.

Its plot concerns the titular wrestler Harimanada, who shocks the traditional sumo community by appearing in an eerie mask with boastful claims that he would beat the current record winning streak of 69 wins or immediately retire; this earns the ire of several high-ranking sumo wrestlers looking to bring the arrogant upstart back down to earth, figuratively and literally.
