Albert Odyssey is the first in a trilogy of strategy RPGs in which the player assumes the role of the eponymous swordsman Albert as he and his friends protect his peaceful kingdom from an encroaching army of evil led by the sorcerer Globus. The game takes place on a Mode 7 plane where units are moved around and attack one another. Battles are shown as cutaways, much like Ogre Battle or Fire Emblem.
The game was followed up by Albert Odyssey 2: Jashin no Taidou, also available for the Super Famicom. The third game, Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean, was a Sega Saturn exclusive and the only game in the series to be localized for the west. The original Albert Odyssey was made available on the Satellaview add-on in 1996, and this version was renamed BS Albert Odyssey.
