Overview
A puzzle-platformer for XBLA and PC; the protagonist, Shuggy, must use an array of tools to solve puzzles throughout his newly inherited castle.
Story
The game begins with Shuggy inheriting a haunted Scottish mansion from his grandfather but in order to make it a livable space he must first evict all of the creatures currently living in it. To do so he must collect all of the keys which are spread across five locations within the mansion (The Dungeon, The Boiler Room, The Gallery, The Graveyard and The Clocktower). Upon obtaining all of the keys Shuggy proceeds to evict the evil tenants and rightfully claim the mansion as his own.
Gameplay
Mechanically, The Adventures of Shuggy is a 2D platformer at its most basic in that the goal of each stage is to collect all of the gems within the stage to obtain a key. Many levels introduce new mechanics like rotating the level, playing with multiple time-delayed copies of Shuggy, winding a physics-based rope through the level, guiding a zombie version of Shuggy, and racing against obstacles. There are over 100 levels within the game and subsequent runs through completed rooms unlocks a time attack timer. A two-player co-op mode is also included with 36 levels to play and the game also features competitive multiplayer with both online and local support being available for the games multiplayer modes. Progress through the game's Scottish-inspired castle takes place on a map-style screen where doorways slowly allow access to more and more rooms.
Release
Dating back to at least mid-2007, The Adventures of Shuggy was created using XNA tools and has been planned as an Xbox Live Arcade release for years.
