Overview
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II is a 2D sci-fi fantasy fighting game developed and released by Arc System Works for arcades (digitally via the NESiCAxLive service for PC-based Taito Type X² hardware) in Japan on December 9, 2010.
An arcade revision of the 2009 fighting game BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, Continuum Shift II includes gameplay balance tweaks, updated cosmetic and announcer changes, and the added characters from the Console version of Continuum Shift (including one new character, the split-personality girl Platinum the Trinity).
It is the first game released under NESiCAxLive digital distribution service. By using a special card, players can record their game stats and use points earned for special content. It later received updates throughout 2011 that further added several balance changes, a new character, and other minor tweaks (such as displaying player information on the VS screen and the first game's stages in tournament play).
The gameplay tweaks, as well as the new character, were later added back into the Console version of Continuum Shift as free DLC on May 2011. In addition, the game was released for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo 3DS in Japan (on March 31, 2011), in North America (by Aksys Games on May 31, 2011), and in Europe (by PQube and Zen United on November 4, 2011). One notable addition to these console ports is a new single-player campaign mode known as "Abyss Mode". None of these versions received the latest updates from the arcade version, which was re-released on consoles as BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend.
Characters
All characters from BlazBlue: Continuum Shift return, along with the three Console version characters (Mu-12, Makoto, and Valkenhayn) and one new character (Platinum). A second new character (Relius) was added post-release.
New Additions
- Platinum the Trinity - A mysterious young girl with two personalities: the brash girl Luna and the timid boy Sena. Armed with her Nox Nyctores weapon "Muchourin", they are requested by Jubei to travel to Kagutsuchi for a purpose. Her Drive, "Magical Symphony", allows her to randomly summon one of six items for her Muchourin (including multiple types of melee weapons and ranged explosives) and then attack with them.
- Relius Clover - Carl's roboticist father and a master puppeteer. He is sent by the Novus Orbis Librarium to monitor Hazama's actions, but tends to focus on his own "experiments". His Drive, "Detonator", allows him to summon (or retreat) his doll "Ignis" that can perform attacks alongside him. Ignis has her own Gauge for performing attacks (with additional drain if she attacks while being summoned). She automatically retreats when attacked, slowly drains her Gauge while active, and regenerates her Gauge while inactive. Added in the Arcade version on September 2011.
