Senko no Ronde DUO

Senko no Ronde DUO

The sequel to the 2006 game Senko no Ronde, featuring a new cast of characters, an upgraded melee system, and a new "partner" system.

Overview

Senko no Ronde DUO (also known as Senko no Ronde: Dis-United Order) is a 3D sci-fi fighting game developed by G.rev and released by Taito for arcades (running PC-based Taito Type X² hardware) exclusively in Japan on July 28, 2009.

The direct sequel to the 2006 game Senko no Ronde, DUO features an updated four-button control scheme, an enhanced melee system, eight new playable characters, and a new "Partner" system (where players choose a second NPC character to boost their abilities).

The game was later ported to the Xbox 360, released by G.rev exclusively in Japan on May 20, 2010. The arcade version also received an enhanced NESiCAxLive digital release (as Senko no Ronde DUO for NESiCAxLive) on January 24, 2011. The game later received an enhanced revision for the PC and PlayStation 4 on September 6, 2017 under the name Senko no Ronde 2.

Gameplay

Much of the gameplay is the same as the predecessor. However, it is now a four-button game (as the Overdrive technique was removed). These buttons are Action, Main Weapon, Sub-Weapon, and Danmaku-waza ("Barrage Technique", or "Barrage").

While the Overdrive technique was removed, the game adds two new techniques: a dedicated melee attack (by pressing both Main Weapon an Sub-Weapon buttons together, which can be used in any range to negate projectiles) and a Partner Support Attack (by pressing both Sub-Weapon and Barrage buttons together, see the Partners section for more information).

Pilots & Rounders

The base version of the game includes 12 playable characters, five of which are from the original Senko no Ronde. Two additional characters from the original (Ernula and Sakurako Sanjo) were added in a later update. Only two characters from the original, Lili Levinas and Karel Werfel, did not make a return as playable characters (although Lili is a Partner and Karel is the game's final boss).

New Additions

Returning Characters

Partners

New to the game is the Partner system, which allows players to choose one of 12 NPC "Partners" that provide two bonuses to the player's Rounder: giving a boost to a Rounder's attribute (attack power, defense power, and mobility) and providing one of four special Partner Support Attacks:

  • Bougyo Unit (Defense Unit)
  • Bakugeki (Bombing)
  • Napalm
  • Kougeki Unit (Attack Unit)

Partner Support Attacks can only be used once-per-round and cannot be used when either player is in B.O.S.S. Mode. When the enemy is in B.O.S.S. Mode, this is changed to a "Bomb" attack that uses up a B.O.S.S. token and is based on the attribute boost chosen.

Attack

  • Giles Hitzfeld (Defense Unit)
  • Dixie Dutilleux (Bombing)
  • Philomena Pasquini (Napalm)
  • Nino Piccioli (Attack Unit)

  • Mieze Merckx (Defense Unit)
  • Alessandro Gilardino (Bombing)
  • Gustav Grafenberg (Napalm)
