Overview
Bubble Bobble Plus! (known in Japan as Bubble Bobble Wii) is a puzzle-platformer developed by Taito and published digitally by both Taito (in Japan) and Square Enix (overseas) for the Wii in Japan (on February 10, 2009), Europe (on April 10, 2009), and North America (on May 25, 2009).
Similar to Taito's other "Plus!" WiiWare games (Bust-A-Move Plus! and Arkanoid Plus!), Bubble Bobble Plus! is a recreation of the original 1986 single-screen platformer Bubble Bobble that retains its classic gameplay and art style.
In addition to the standard and "Super" versions of the original, the game includes an "arranged" set of levels (with support for four-player multiplayer, with players three and four taking control of Peb and Pab) and two extra DLC level packs (with expert stages and new boss battles).
It was later ported to the Xbox 360 (as an Xbox Live Arcade title) on September 16, 2009 as Bubble Bobble Neo!, adding a bonus Versus mode (where players, able to trap other players in bubbles, try to be the last player standing).
As of January 30, 2019, the Wii version of the game can no longer be acquired due to the closure of the Wii Shop Channel.
Changes
- The bubble blowing mechanic has been changed so that players cannot blow bubbles when right next to a wall. This oversight by Taito renders level 72 almost unplayable.
- The graphics are all updated to 3D models
- The music has been rescored, but is still the familiar tune.
Downloadable Content
2 level packs of 50 new levels each are planned to be released as downloadable content costing 200 points each.
