Galaxy Game

Galaxy Game

Galaxy Game is one of the first coin-operated arcade games. It appeared in September 1971, two months before the release of Computer Space, but was never mass-produced.

Influenced by the design of Spacewar!, designers Bill Pitts and Hugh Tuck developed a dime-operated machine out of a PDP-11 computer with vector graphics. The machine resided at Stanford University for nearly 8 years when it was finally decommissioned in May of 1979.

It was one of the first commercial arcade games, although it was ostensibly a unique machine, unlike Nolan Bushnell's Computer Space machine that was to be mass produced and distributed later.
