Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust

Larry Lovage returns for the first time since Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. This time he takes a job at his uncle's movie studio. Larry finds out that a rival studio is aware of all the movies the studio are producing; there is a mole in the studio! Larry Lovage, controlled by the player, must find out the identity of the mole for the sake of his uncle's studio.

The game is notable for being "written" by Allen Covert, best known for his starring role in Grandma's Boy and being a frequent bit player in Adam Sandler movies. Al Lowe, credited as the creator of the franchise, has publicly 'thanked' the publisher on his website for not allowing him to be associated with it.

Criticism

The game is notoriously bad, winning Worst Game of the Year in 2009 awards across many different gaming websites, including ScrewAttack and Giant Bomb. Containing shoddy platforming controls, a camera with serious issues, and replete with fourth-wall breaking and decades out of date "jokes", the game is credited with killing the already comatose franchise until the Kickstarted remake of Leisure Suit Larry: Land of the Lounge Lizards was released. Ryan Davis criticized the game for being crass without having any creative or clever jokes.

During a Giant Bomb Quick Look of the game, Jeff Gerstmann asked Ryan Davis if there was a way for a Leisure Suit Larry game to be made that wasn't 'totally lame'. Ryan stated that "If you could like, hold a mirror up to this game and then print that onto a disc and then play that, you would have an alright Leisure Suit Larry game."
