Astro Robo Sasa

Astro Robo Sasa

An arcade-style action game released for the MSX computer in 1984 and later ported to the Nintendo Famicom console titled as Astro Robo SASA (アストロロボSASA) in 1985. The protagonist uses a gun's recoil to fly around stage, collecting additional energy containers.

Overview

Astro Robo Sasa was originally released on the MSX home computer as Sasa, and updated as Astro Robo Sasa the following year for its Famicom port.

The game involves obtaining capsules with an 'E' on them in each stage, which are usually hidden or suspended by balloons or present some other difficulty. These capsules are required to replenish a diminishing power supply that drains over time as well as whenever the player fires their gun or comes into contact with an enemy. When the energy reserves reaches 0, the game ends. An added wrinkle is that the only way the player character can move around is by firing their gun, which uses up energy, and using the recoil to propel themselves across the stage.
